What we collect

• Your email address and password (passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text).
• Your username, display name and optional profile photo.
• The text posts, replies, groups, friend connections and blocks you create.
• Basic technical data needed to serve the site, such as your request logs.

What we do not collect

No location tracking, no advertising identifiers, no third-party ad networks, no selling of personal data, and no image uploads other than the profile photo you choose.

How we use it

Only to run the service: show your posts, sign you in, deliver password recovery emails, enforce our rules and handle reports of abusive content.

Who can see your content

webbtext is members-only. Posts, profiles and like activity are visible only to signed-in members — they are not readable by the public web or search engines. Posts inside a group are visible only to approved members of that group. Your email address is never shown to other users.

Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)

• Contract — creating your account, storing your profile and showing your posts to other members.
• Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, and handling reports and blocks.
• Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose limited records by law.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making, and we never sell it.

Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in. No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies are used, so no consent banner choices are required beyond acknowledging this notice.

How long we keep it

Your account data and posts are kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, replies, likes, friendships and blocks are deleted immediately, and backups roll off within 30 days. Abuse reports may be retained for up to 12 months so repeat problems can be dealt with.

Storage, processors and transfers

Data is stored in our managed cloud database and served through our hosting provider. These providers act as processors on our behalf under written terms, and any transfers outside the UK/EEA rely on the UK Addendum and EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your data, and the right to data portability. You can exercise most of these yourself in Settings: edit your profile, download a full copy of your data as a JSON file, or permanently delete your account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

For anything else, email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) or your local EU supervisory authority.

Children

webbtext is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). Accounts found to belong to under-age users are removed.
